The practice of burning address for CW-20 tokens is often misguided due to their smart contract nature. While sending tokens to a burn address is effective for native tokens, CW-20 tokens require a smart contract interaction for burning. Misunderstandings caused by insufficient documentation have led to token holders mistakenly sending tokens to native burn address, resulting in tokens being locked indefinitely. These tokens are technically not burned but are effectively out of circulation. However, they are still counted towards the total supply, which can potentially distort market metrics.
